BUSTS

QUARTERBACKS

ELI MANNING - Manning had an average year even by his standards in 2007. Winning a super bowl doesn’t automatically vault you into elite fantasy status. He is questionable starter in a twelve man league.

MATT LEINART - It appears Leinart has been once again given the starting job with little justification. He was a high draft choice but don’t you have to play the quarterback who gives you the best chance of winning. The third year should be a major growth year but in Leinart case he barely has the quality experience of a second year quarterback.

DONOVAN MCNABB - McNabb still has a top ten ranking on many fantasy boards and that is way too high. 2005 and 2006 were ended early due to injury and 2007 was sub par at best. He is no longer a mobile quarterback and that was a big part of his fantasy value.

PHILIP RIVERS - The Chargers will emphasis the run as usual and Rivers will struggle against some very tough pass defenses. Rivers is a servicable backup for bye weeks or injury protection. Relying on Rivers as a starter is a big mistake.

RUNNING BACKS

FRANK GORE - Gore is the most dangerous pick of the 2008 fantasy season. Martz gets a lot unwarranted praise and he will destroy Gore’s chance of success this year. At the first sign of a faltering running attack, Martz will abandon the run and chuck the ball on every down. Martz has two examples of his system and unfortunately Gore’s success will more resemble Kevin Jones than Marshall Faulk.

JUSTIN FARGAS - Fargas is coming off the best season of his career and was rewarded with the starting job and a new contract. Of course that lasted until the selection of Darren McFadden in the NFL draft. Fargas may enter the season as the starter but will finish splitting carries at best.

BRANDON JACOBS - There are too many question marks for Jacobs coming into the 2008 season. A brutal rush defense schedule, crowded backfield and the ever looming injury risk. There are bound to be better options in the early rounds for your #2 running back.

RONNIE BROWN - Ronnie Brown is rehabbing his ACL injury through the off-season and new head coach Tony Sparano believes he will be ready for training camp. Whether this comes to fruition and his knee can hold up is another. This is just one of many questions surrounding the Miami Dolphins and avoiding Brown is a good idea.

CADILLAC WILLIAMS - The rehab of Williams continues and news of this will dictate his fantasy value. There is no reason to take a chance and waste a pick regardless.

CEDRIC BENSON - It doesn't matter who Benson signs with, he is not worth a roster spot.

WIDE RECEIVERS

TORRY HOLT - Holt has dropped out of the top ten and the remainder of his career will prove less productive. Holt is still a good #2 receiver but temper expectations.

CHAD JOHNSON - Johnson acts like the best receiver in the league when he is not even the best receiver on his team. His teammates will finally have enough of him by the time camp starts and Carson Palmer will exaust every other option before throwing him the ball. There are plenty of good receivers to choose from so passing completely on Johnson is the best approach.

JAVON WALKER - Walker is a huge injury risk and the reward with an inexperienced quarterback is not that good.

HINES WARD - Roethlisberger spreads the ball around in the Pittsburgh offense and Hines Ward’s targets will be greatly diminished. Ward’s best days are behind him as age and injuries are finally catching up.

DONALD DRIVER - Driver had a brief stint as a fantasy elite and that time has passed. Jennings is now the #1 receiver and Driver will take a back seat with Rodgers taking the snaps.

TIGHT ENDS

VERNON DAVIS - The 49er offense is a work in progress and Vernon Davis will suffer as a result. The tight end position was forgotten in Martz’s offense in Detroit and the 49er tight ends will have similar results.

TODD HEAP - Heap is ranked too high every year and with the overriding injury risk he is not worth it. Throw in Baltimore’s inability to solve the quarterback problem and Heap is not even in the top ten.
